TRAVEL RESTRICTIONS AND EXEMPTIONS
An Update on Travel Restrictions and Exemptions Temporary foreign workers, approved permanent residents and some international students, who haven’t yet landed are now able to enter Canada. Previously announced travel restriction exemptions have now been implemented. Anyone who is exempt can now travel to Canada. Travelling by air: Before you’re allowed to board your flight, you will need to pass a health check conducted by airlines. Anybody who shows symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed to enter Canada by air. Once you arrive in Canada your health will be assessed before you leave the port of entry. CANADA’S COVID-19 ECONOMIC RESPONSE PLAN (UPDATED 14APR2020)

COVID-19 UPDATES ISSUED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA

The Government of Canada has developed an informative web page to help Canadians cope with the difficulties during the outbreak of the COVID-19.

Canada’s Economic Response Plan includes support for individuals.

One of the support is the New Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) that provides a taxable benefit of $2,000 a month for up to 4 months to workers negatively impacted by the COVID-19. Eligible workers will be able to apply for it in early April via an online portal or by phone.

ESDC updates

With the outbreak of COVID-19, ESDC has advised Canadians and workers to delay submitting their passport service applications and SIN applications unless in urgent needs.

Canadians with urgent passport services may contact the Passport Call Centre at 1-800-567-6868 or fill out the Service Canada e-form

For urgent SIN applications, applicants are required to send their applications by Canada Post or use a courier service. No in-person service is provided currently.

PRIORITIZED LMIA NOC CODES

ESDC has provided a list of the 10 NOC codes that they have prioritized for the processing of Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIA). IRCC officers are encouraged to prioritize work permit applications for those NOCs, in additional to health-related occupations, as these occupations have been identified as essential and critical for Canada.
